Seems to me that Vista is pretty stable and boring but that's a great thing.

I don't need the drama of an unstable OS. If however, you are one of the few who has Windows XP running well, I am not sure there is much value in upgrading..

I've been using Vista for several months now and the betas have gotten progressively better. The RTM is great at this point..

If you want to see the difference try XP for a while again alot of the little things, even something as little as the maximising and minimising animations is something you miss. The networking interface is great too seting up networks and VPNs is alot easier. The games explorer is good too.

Scott, are you saying that you will miss Vista after using XP or miss XP after using it again?

Vista is such a gd OS. XP i always had problems with blue screen after blue screen but with vista theres like no errors. The only reason my pc would crash now is cause of hardware issues.

I never liked XP i thought it was a heap of crap. Vistas GUI is really nice and its all layed out great aswell. As Warriorscot as said networking is easier.

Vista is the most exciting OS if u ask me. its alot more graphical than Mac now even though they did steal quite a bit from them like the spinning logo when loading instead of the hourglass.

XP Pro, awesome operating system for its time. XP brought a bunch of new things to the plate whenever they released it. After using XP for about a year, I figured out how to make it stable and very user friendly. XP is jam packed with awesomeness because even with old crappy 330 mhz computers with 64 mb of ram, turning appearance settings all the way down, it still ran really fast.

And then Vista is released....So far it seems to be a fairly stable machine, nice appearance, easy to use, games are much sharper, and gotta luv the indexing. If it wasn't for indexing, DreamScene, and Directx10 support, then I probably wouldn't use Vista. But when ya have to have the newest games then you have to stay up with the hardware and software to run them.
There is one thing about Vista that I'm not sure about, what good does the "switch between windows" do?

My vista performance score 4.2 (well guess that's what ya get with hardware 3 yrs old.)

That quote right there speaks volumes about Microsoft's effort at an OS. Most people I know took over a year to get comfortable with XP.

Looking back now, that's really sad.

Yes it took about a year to get comfortable with it, but now I can zoom around this operating system like none other. I've programmed with it, play games on it, and use it for schoolwork. Playing games(that's one thing you can't say about a MAC)

The point is, it did take me about a year, but that was just to learn everything. I'm not an average computer user, I can reap all up and done windows. Windows provides awesome networking, games platform, and make it easy for me to get my work done quickly.

With the release of Vista, ppl can get their work done even quicker because it more stable.

All I gotta say is Microsoft releases amazing software, way ahead of its time. Mac and Linux can't say that, although gotta give Linux some credit because they are an extremely stable platform.

Yeah a year aint bad, ive used linux for 7 or 8 months now not as reguialr as windows and while im functional im not comfortable, i used macs near every day for 3 or 4 years and never got comfortable in that entire time, so a year is pretty good, it only took me a month or two to get used to windows back in the day of 3.1 a bit longer for Dos but once i got Dos shell i was fine.

There are allot of tweaks and services that can and should be disabled to run quicker, smoother. The same as XP. Here is a whole bunch:

Odd, It took me no time at all to get used to XP, probally one of the most user friendly OS' out there. As for instability, I don't agree either. I've only ever had one BSOD whilst using windows, and thats when I crashed a virtual machine, on purpose.

As for Vista, it looks very pretty, I havn't had much time to play with it yet, although my company insists I get certified to use the OS. I've always been pesimistic toward new OS' anyway, I'm sure like has been the case with other versions of Windows I'll come round.
