Trouble downloading

I cannot download anything onto my computer. I begin the process normally but half way through the downloading it stops the transfer. I have DSL and the computer, a Gateway laptop, is less than 3 months old. I have Norton software installed, as well as webroot for spyware, as well as McAfee virus/security software. Also, when I'm using Internet Explorer it is impossible to change my homepage (Firefox allowed me to change my homepage). What can I do to be able to download and select a personalized homepage.

I'd take a look in the malware help section maybe? sounds like something isn;t runnign quite right. especially with the changing of homepage. Might be worth asking over there.
