I am having a problem with my IE6 redirecting when I type in certain URLs. These are all sites I used to be able to get to. It will direct me to either some search site that doesn't load, or a google search. I have done a trace on the URL that is redirected and it comes up with Intercage as the network. I have googled and understand that Intercage/Atrivo hosts a lot of malware and that many people have had problems with them, but none of the problems described mine.

Anyways, I have run the tools in the sticky and they haven't helped. Also, I didn't post an uninstall list because I check it regularly and recognize all the programs in it, and explorer1.exe in my processes is a customized process, nothing has hijacked my entire OS. It's not anything on my network, because my laptop works fine.

Hi again egloskerry,

We are experiencing an intermittent server problem on the forum at the moment where posts are coming in blank. If you experience this try to wrap you entire post in a quote box (I had to do it for this post).
If you're not sure how to do this, feel free to PM me & I'll provide instructions.
TIP - If you click the Preview Post button & the preview doesn't display, then your post will most likley be blank - then use the Quote box.
sorry for the inconvienence - we're working on it.

explorer1.exe in my processes is a customized process

Pleased you told me that. :whistling:

Step 1
You are currently using HijackThis from the desktop, this can cause problems.
HijackThis creates backups, these are needed in case of any recovery issues.
Please create a folder on your C:\ drive called C:\HJT, download and unzip HijackThis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on.

STEPS For Creating Folder[list=1]
1. Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New >> Folder and name the folder HJT.

2. Download HijackThis to the new folder:

3. Double Click on HijackThis.zip to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Step 2
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Run HijackThis (from C:\HJT) Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - (no file)

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{79F62953-B735-48BE-BB46-861A3C0CDA1F}: NameServer = 85.255.116.35,85.255.112.65
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{96061A10-087B-4A4A-A13D-208D125B4656}: NameServer = 85.255.116.35,85.255.112.65

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis.

Step 3
Finally, please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), along with a new HijackThis log to this topic.

My pleasure, pleased your back to normal.

If you want to post your AVG Anti-Spyware results I can look over it for you, otherwise:

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • ATFCleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Happy computing !!
