Hard drive lock out

I have a compaq TC1000 tablet. I have not used it for some time, but when I have powered it up, it says no operating system found (standalone). When I dock it it starts to boot and then asks for a Hard drive password - I HAVE NEVER SET ONE!! The hard drive is a HITACHI DK23EA-30. I have tried running the restore CD, but it always stops at this password. Any ideas? I have already used the service duide to remove the RTC battery. In the BIOS it says there is no password???
