Hi,

My laptop has the following problems: after I start internet explorer (which works just fine) I can no longer open my email (Outlook) and I can not start any applications. When I try to open email I receive an error message saying that the application cannot be found. When I try to open a word document the the program begins installing. All of my files are still intact.

This all happened after trying to download AOL software and then trying to remove it because it would not work. I also downloaded JV16 software to try to undelete the AOL. I did not at any time receive error messages - only problem was the unistall would hang up.

Also, each time I quit windows, I always have to end a program that is still running and now I am also getting microsoft update messages/installs every time on the turn off button.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Open your Office Apps and under Help, choose Detect and Repair.

Go to Start -> Run type sfc /scannow

Let those run and let me know if anything changes.

I opened up word (Office Standard Edition 2003) - it began installing and then I received this message:

Error25090. Office setup encountered a problem with the office source engine, system error -2147024893. Please open C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\SETUP.CHM and look for "Office Source Engine" for information on how to resolve this problem.

I went to the OFFICE11 folder and there is only one thing - MSOHEV.DLL

When I tried sfc/scannow I got the the following message : "Windows cannot find 'sfc/scannow'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

Follow the steps in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827467

That sounds like your problem. Also you have to put a space between sfc and scannow.

Its: sfc /scannow
not: sfc/scannow
This will make a difference when trying to run it. But I would follow the article above first.

Let me know :whistling:
