Hi Everyone,

I’m not sure if my concern is warranted or not, however, I am really starting to wonder if someone has been able to remotely install a key logger of keyboard sniffer on my home PC.

I’m running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 with Zone Alarm for my firewall on my home PC. I was getting ready for a guest to spend a few days with me and knowing that they would be needing to access the Internet I was going to turn on the guest account.

I did the Start> control panel> user accounts> change account thing and got scared half out of my wits. There I saw my Admin account which is password protected, my secondary limited account which is also password AND another account that said something about Admin.??? But the’?’ were letters and that account wasn’t password protected NOR was it an account that I had set up.

I may have acted to hastily but I was almost in a panic and I deleted that account. When I deleted the account the wizard asked if I wanted to keep the files related to that account and I said yes. The wizard told me where it was going to stash those files at but I can’t find those buggers anywhere.

OK, so that’s the reason for my visit today. As none of my anti-virus or anti-spyware tools have picked anything up I would like to ask about evil things written in Python.

Not too long ago I had ran across a post on one of these help forums that had been put up by a trainee that said he could install a keyloger written in python that would be undetectable. I would like to know if that’s true.

I started at the top of the things to do before posting a HJT log page and started following all of the instructions there.

I ran ATF Cleaner to clean IE & Firefox, CCleaner, CleanUp, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware SE Personal all in regular mode and then again in safe mode.

I ran AVG Anti-Spyware in safe mode. AVG came up clean and SpyBot Search & Destroy reported that no immediate threats were found and Ad-Aware SE Personal also came back clean.

Now comes a problem. I tried eight or ten times to use the Panda Active Scan that you recommend, however, I was unable to get it to work. It would indicate that it had downloaded and had started the scan but it just simply refused to complete a scan so I gave up on that part.

It also seemed as though something were interfering with Zone Alarm's ability to get initialized when I had re-booted. Zone Alarm had tried to start several times and wasn't getting anywhere so I unplugged my phone like from my DSL modem just to make sure that nothing was leaving my system. A couple of minutes later Zone Alarm managed to get started.

Here are the SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log and my HJT log.
