Hi Jered E you have a wareout infection which we will endevour to rid you of. Please copy and paste this post to a text file for reference as you will be offline at times.

FIRST

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
Fixwareout 1
Fixwareout 2

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

THEN

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 85.255.113.139,85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.139 85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 85.255.113.139,85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.139 85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 85.255.113.139,85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.139 85.255.112.186

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis.

NEXT

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

NEARLY THERE

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.
Finally, please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt), along with an uninstall list, a new HijackThis log and AVG Antispy log into this topic. You may need to do multiple posts, that is not a problem

Ok, so here's what happened. I did everything you told me, and it got rid of all but one thing, which i believe AVG quarantined successfully. Then, i unplugged my ethernet cable to play xbox live, and my internet stopped working. Im not sure if Hijack this deleted the wrong thing, or if i shouldn't have unplugged that cord, but either way, i had to system restore and now the virus is back. Ill do it again and post the results.

One quick question in addition though. I have both AVG because it works well for finding stuff, and Trendmicro as our primary antivirus. I hear having 2 is bad, should i uninstall one? I'll probably just get zonealarm soon anyway. If i should only have one, is there any you could recommend? you have been a great help so far, i appreciate it.

Hi Jered E Good work restoring as that was the best option to resolve your problem

To rectify this problem: In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection services will require them.

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable one some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Then re-run FixWareout and HJT please ensure that you do not delete the following line
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 192.168.0.1,205.171.3.65

If you only have one AV resident (i.e. starts with the computer) and the other as on demand (i.e. you start it from the start menu ) then there is no conflict. Be aware that Zonealarm by itself is just a firewall not an AV, unless you are getting the suite. I await your reply :whistling:

Hi Jered AVG has stated that a rustock infection has been quarantined. However, to be on the safe side I would like you to do the following

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32:lzx32.sys -> Trojan.Rustock.nay

Download Rustbfix from one of these locations:
http://www.uploads.e...et/rustbfix.exe
http://uploads.ejvin...om/Rustbfix.exe
...and save it to your desktop.

Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these logfiles along with a new HijackThis log. %root% will be your c: drive

Also I would like you to go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_07

Then download and install the latest Java version from here MajorGeeks

Finally to do a deep scan and confirm that we have it all

Download WindPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

If you could follow up with the following logs avenger.txt, pelog.txt, winpfind and a new HJT log :whistling:

Hi Jered it appears that the wareout has returned so could you re-run the fixwareout again..

To begin

Run Fixwareout again and ensure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

NEXT

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 85.255.113.134,85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 85.255.113.134,85.255.112.186
O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\..\{090DF030-4FC1-4160-974D-A2F28190F304}: NameServer = 85.255.113.134,85.255.112.186

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\anram.dll
C:\WINDOWS\del.tmp

After that, Reboot.

THEN

In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable one some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

NEARLY THERE

Logs required are report.txt and a new HJT

Hi Jered rather than do a system restore if you experience problems after running the HiJackThis fix, please do the following. I would suggest copying this to a notepad file for reference.

To restore the backups:

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on "View the list of Backups"
  • Place a check mark next to everything in that window
  • Click Restore
  • Click Yes
  • Reboot your computer
  • Run HiJackThis and post a new HiJackThis log for review.

Could you please produce another HJT log for me, so I can see what stage we are at now
