Windows 'Live OneCare' is a complete firewall and virus protection service, so if you also have another antivirus product installed (AVG) and it's running all the time to give you 'on-access protection' (which Onecare also gives you) that will cause problems by the two services conflicting with one another.

Whilst it's okay to have two antivirus products installed to perform a local virus scan "on demand" with each of them in turn, you must only have one "on-access" virus protection service running at any one time. This on-access protection is often referred to as "auto-protect", and if both OneCare and AVG are providing "auto-protect", that's asking for trouble. The conflict is preventing both of them from loading.

This is best avoided by always uninstalling an existing antivirus product before installing another one, so the conflict can never arise. One good antivirus product on it's own is all I have ever had on my PC at any one time, and I've never felt the need to complicate matters by installing two.

Boot up with the F8 key depressed again and choose "Last known good configuration" from the startup menu. If that gets you into Windows, immediately uninstall AVG if you want to keep Live OneCare (or vice versa). Then see if the PC will boot normally.

When I hit the F8 it still goes into the regular windows protocal....and the problem with the OneCare was there before I added the other program. I will try removing the OneCare and see if it helps the other programs find the problem. Thanks for the comment.
