Laptop wont connect to wireless network

:whistling: Please! :blink: erm, got a wireless router, and my bro can connect to it without a prob from his desktop, usin a usb stick. my laptop wont detect the network, infact it isnt detecting any. this has worked in the past, and is wifi enabled. please help!

More than likely a wireless configuration problem at your end. Your bro is okay because he's connected directly by a network cable. You aren't.
Go into the wireless setup software you installed on the laptop, check it's set to use the same channel number that the router is set to. Should auto-detect the right channel but sometimes it doesn't and you have to do it manually.

Router may also have been configured to use security encryption (either WEP or WPA) so you need to set your wirelss card the same using it's software on your laptop. You will need to enter the encryption key that is usually stuck on a label under the router.

While your trying all this, get as close as possible to the router to rule out any possibility of it being an "out of range" problem (about which you get no specific warning).

erm my comp doesnt have any software on it, i just used the windows wireless stuff to connect. its worked before, so i guess a setting has changed somewhere?
