Hello toy2 and welcome to G2G's Malware Forum.

Very sorry for the delay. As your log is fairly old at this point, please rescan with Hijack This and post a new log for review.

I'll get it looked at ASAP.

Hello toy2.

Nothing much showing in your Hijack This Log. The other programs removed some items but none were major items. Can you tell me exactly what Spybot keeps picking up? Is it a cookie? I recently did a scan with spybot and had an instance of a Tagasaurus cookie. It is not uncommon to find these. There may just be some registry entries that are left over from a previous removal. Let's get a scan and see what comes up.

Hi Tech_1,

Yes, Spybot would always show the TagASaurus tracking cookie, and I wasn't sure if I should worry given the bad things I've read about TagASaurus. If it's not a ibg deal then great, but I did run the scans you requested just to be safe. Here are my results:

AdAware Results came up clean. Nothing bad to report.

Bitdefender results:

Hold tight JNC while I ask one of the experts for some advice on those last results. I believe that BitDefender has flagged some legit files. :whistling:

Please bear with me.

OK. Seems that the two files in question are not a very big deal. The first one:

C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\taskmgr.exe

should only be a problem if you were to decide to uninstall a service pack. There is really no reason to do that, especially in this case, so that's OK.

The second:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\calc.exe

I am told should regenerate itself in time. So no need to mess with anything there, for now.

Other than that, your log looks clean and everything that BitDefender found was already in quarantine or in system restore. We'll take care of that last.

Any other problems?

Congratulations. Your system is clean of Malware.

Below is my standard closing speech. You may already have some of these programs and/or performed some of these steps. Use what you can and skip the rest.

  • Please re-hide hidden files. (If applicable)
Follow the directions you used earlier to show hidden files and undo the changes you made so that hidden files are actually hidden once again.
  • Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
  • Create New Restore Point and Delete Old Restore Points.
Step #1 - Create a New Restore Point

    Go - Start>Programmes>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore>Create a New Restore point.

Step #2 - Flush All Previous Points

    Go - Start>Programmes>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Cleanup>"More Options" Tab>Remove All But Most Recent Point.
  • Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
    • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
    • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
    • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
  • You should also have a good firewall. Here are 2 free ones available for personal use:
  • You should also have a good Anti-Virus (these are also free for personal use):It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
  • To keep your operating system up to date you should do a windows update monthly. Here's the link:
  • And to keep your system clean, run these free malware scanners weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
  • To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?
Safe Surfing!
