the only thing that is checked is automatically detect settings, the rest is blank

Is there anything besides your internet that works correctly? For instance, does your AVG still not update? If so, open your AVG Control Center by doubleclicking your AVG icon. Click on Update Manager and then on settings. There should be a drop-down box that will give you some proxy server options. Is yours set to Do Not Use Proxy Server?

sorry i went on hols, and yes there is only one thing that works correctly msn messenger 7.5, i tried to update it but after i did that it didnt work, so i did a system restore. avg was set to do not use proxy settings.

Since your malware scans aren't turning up anything, I'd like you to post in the Networking forum. They can walk you through more detailed settings and hopefully get this issue figured out.
