what brand/make of mouse is it?

is the replacement moust connected in the same fashion as the previouse mouse? If so, buy a mouse that connects (or use one that you have lying around or some will let you borrow.... or go to store with good return policy..) differnly.
If you have the bus mouse (small round connector near keyboard) try usb. If you have usb, try bus ... of course if this works, your just starting to see that something is wrong with the drivers/settings/connector that the previous version mouse used... (first step... only)
