system/config/system ERROR!

recently I've been recieving warnings from my computer that win.32 is failing or some message close to that. The computer asks to send an "error report" to Windows, but also gives me the option to click a "debug" button. If I clicked to send a report, my computer would freeze up, but if I 'debugged' everything seemed to work fine. I had also recently downloaded "No-Adware" to rid my comp of spyware etc. It worked great the first time, but didn't seem to work that well for more than 15 minutes. SO, I took another route and now us Mozilla FireFox instead of IE. After switching to Firefox, my computer workings have been going a lot smoother. I uninstalled "No-Adware." I attempted to burn recovery cd's and could not complete the first cd because of a problem with win.32. I feel like my computer runs fine, but I fear a problem looming in the backround because of my win.32 problem. I don't even know what a win.32 is! I have taken every step on Geeks to Go including getting a hijackthis log. Please help!

Though NOW my computer will not start at all saying I have "missing or corrupt files" and I need to use my 'original start-up disk' to reset, but when I bought the computer it didn't come with a start-up disk (thanks HP).

Hi Nick and welcome to the GTG forums. I see a couple of items that should be fixed here, but they shouldn't be causing any os problems. I'll have you fix the items and post a new log back here. When you do, include the exact error message that you are receiving and I'll look into what that might mean. For now, please proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here (along with the details of the error message you are receiving) using the Add Reply button and I will review it when it comes in.

you're too late. My computer crashed and I had to call Hp to get help and I just reformated everything (pressed F10 in a DOS mode I think - the Indian guy from Hp walked me through it). Though reformatted I didn't lose a thing and to me everything seems to be working fine (except i'm having BIG frustrations with my TaxCut software) but here is my new hijackthis log. I didn't "fix" anything though. Please let me know if I need to fix anything now. Thank you so much for the reply!

Hey mindlessnick. I'm glad everythng worked out. Your current log looks clean (and I would hope so :tazz: ). Here's some additional information for you:

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs: SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and IESpy-Ad. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

You should also have a good firewall and anti-virus application like the ones you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your system up to date and clean visit Windows Update monthly, run AdAware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
