For the past few days my computer has been restarting on it's own, without warning and without an obvious cause. I keep it on all the time and it's restarting every several hours (6 or so).

I've already tried a number of possible solutions including:

- Checking the HDD temperature, it was indeed a little hot, in the high 50s C, but I've since gotten it down to the high 30s and the computer is still resetting.
- I tried running three different Spyware programs (Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, and Ad-Aware SE). Each program found some spyware, some serious, but deleting it did not stop the resetting.
- I've turned off the automatic restart in My Computer-->Properties-->Advanc... Up and Recovery, which hasn't stopped it.
- I looked into eventvwr. I got scatterings of The device, \Device\Harddisk1\D, has a bad block (Event ID: 7) on my main HDD but not specifically around when the computers been crashing. Around each crash I do get this:

Event ID: 1517
Source: userenv

Windows saved user ***\*** registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

But my searches so far suggest that this is a byproduct of the resets but not the cause.
- I've uninstalled all programs I had installed (C&C:Tiberun Sun and a demo for Out Of the Park Baseball) recently.
- I ran advanced windows care 2 which found a variety of errors but didn't stop the resetting.
- I ran Avira anti virus which found some Trojan horses but, like everything, didn't stop the resetting.

My basic computer's specs are:

Windows XP Home Edition SP 2
Intel P4 3GHz
1 GB of RAM
A Maxtor 160 GB primary HD, and a WBC Secondary HD

Any help would be appreciated. I've tried about everything I could think of or I could find on the web and it still resetting :/

It sounds like you have a lot of malware on your computer and it doesn't sound like you're properly getting rid of it. Why don't you head over to the malware fourm and read this post on how to post a HijackThis log. Malware could definately be causing these random restarts, and even if not, it should still be eliminated.

Another possibility... you said you checked your HDD temps, but what about CPU or other temps? Do you have enough fans in your system?

Following the advice of another topic on this forum I installed SpeedFan to check the CPU, etc temps. My CPU was consistently in the high-40s and low-50s which I was told is not high enough to cause this, though I wouldn't know on my own.

Here's the HijackThis log:
