Laptop doesn't rcognize touchpad

Hey, so all of a sudden my touchpad stoped working on my compaq presario x1000. I tried reinstalling the drivers, and now the drivers say they are there, but it is still not recognizing the touchpad. If I go to the control panel, mouse, and then the device settings tab, under devices nothing is listed. :blink:
