If you will,go to your services page and locate this service

Right Click and Select Properties,If the service is started,Stop it please, then go to the Start up type and change it to disabled.

Go to Add\Remove Programs and Remove

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05

Also,if you dont use any of these, uninstall as well.

America Online

CompuServe

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Once all is completed, please post a fresh HijackThis Startup log.

Cretemonster-

I disable the WAN Miniport (ATW) Service with no problems.

Java removed. Compuserve and AOL will not remove. I have tried MANY times in the past too. It always says no version is installed on this computer...but I see parts so know something is somewhere.

In my control panel there is not a java coffee cup anywhere. I have never seen it in the control panel.

Thanks again,

Dawn

Go ahead and use the Java link above, download and install the latest version of Java.

Open HijackThis and go to the Misc Tools section and open the Uninstall Manager.

Highlight each of those entries then select "Delete this Entry"

That should rid Add\Remove of AOL and Compuserve.

Click Start--> All Programs--> Accessories--> System Tools

Run the Disk Cleanup tool and when it has completed its task, run the Disc Defragmenter tool.

These both may take some time to run.

Once all those are completed, post a fresh Startup list please and lets see what old drivers and services are left loading.

Cretemonster.~ Finally got F-secure to work. I had to shut of my accelerator. I should have known it isn't the first time it has caused issues with virus scanning....

Here is the log it created. The first scan it found two cookies...this time it is clean. Thanks for all of your help. Dawn

Allrighty, lets go kill a couple of startups in msconfig.

Click Start--> Run--> Type in msconfig and click OK.

Click the Startup tab and then review the list displayed, basically the only thing you need to leave checked is anything ZoneAlarm related.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Share-to-Web Namespace Daemon] C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = ?

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

O4 - Global Startup: HPAiODevice(hp officejet g series) - 1.lnk = C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\AiO\hp officejet g series\Bin\hpoavn07.exe

All the above items should be listed in msconfig, you will have to check or uncheck them according to what you want starting up when the machine boots.

Only thing I see you may really want are the HP items, the rest can be launched when needed.

Once you have made your selections and only the items you want starting up are checked.

Click Apply--> OK and then Yes to the prompt to restart.

When the next boot completes, you will get a message concerning the System Configuration Utilty, tick the box to NOT show the message again and let me know how the machine is booting up now?
