I used google to get all the figures. Got circumference of earth at the equator as 24,902 miles. Got the diameter of a penny (cent) as 0.75 inch. Worked out there are 63,360 inches in a mile, which would mean 47,520 pennies in a mile and multiplied that by 24,902 miles and got 1,183,343,040 pennies around the earth.
Edit: Oops .. just noticed an anomoly. If there are 63,360 inches in a mile and a penny is .75 inch then there should be more pennies than inches in a mile! Got my calc wrong (multiplied when I should have divided). Try again ... 63360/0.75 equals 84,480 pennies in a mile, multiply by 24,902 miles would give
2,103,720,960 pennies around the earth.
Close enough?
