I have a 3 yr old terayon cable modem. It has been suggested by the cable co. to get an updated model. Question is this, will the linksys 54g router recognize the new hardware, or should I go ahead and schedule a tech to follow-up to ensure on-line access? When I had the wireless set-up originally- I had a Dell recommended tech set up the wireless config. I cannot afford any downtime as the wife works out of the house and on-line access is critical. Thanks in advance.

unless you had to do some custom setup with regards to the mdem and router you should be fine....basic steps would be to turn off your router and all PCS connected to it...install the new modem (as in hook it up to the cable and plug it in)...once the modem is powered up....turn on your router....let that sit for 5 min or so...till all the lights stabalize....then turn on your pc...this SHOULD have the router detect the modem and your pc reconnect to the router....if it's not a great cost or if it's free....having a tech on site shouldn't hurt (i've known some stupid techs though)...and might make you feel more comfortable
