hello everyone,

have a problem with the folder mentioned in the title, hoping you can help.

contains two other folders marked DB, and TOUR, plus a icon marked WkstnInstall.
WkstnInstall properties says it's an application, Accounting Principles, Seventh Edition.
Tour has a bunch of WAV files, DB has files marked accounts.
anytime i try to access the folders, and click on one of the items it contains, my system freezes.
really large folder 92.5MB, created 11/26/2006

any ideas what it is for??? i have no idea. i first noticed it when it clogged up my last ad aware scan.
would like to delete it.

no, i do not.
would this have any connection to BDE Administrator, that also mysteriously appeared on my machine on 11/24/2006?

i have two teenagers in the house that use this machine. god only knows where they go.

i see nothing in add/remove that i do not recognize.

this is why this particular folder is a puzzle.

in the last few days, from the malware removal forum, i have run:
ATF Cleaner
AVG Anti-Spyware
Superantispyware home edition
Panda Activescan
Ad aware
Spybot S&D

all came up clean.

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit, select all, right click any file, click delete, confirm

Restart the PC but keep tapping F8 until you get options, choose safe mode, select the administrator account

Locate the aptin7e folder, move it to my documents and restart the PC

BDE can be to do with programming, so you may want to check if anyone did install it before doing the same

did as you asked, took a bit to remember a password to access administrator, as i do not do much there.
just a simple home machine to do e mails, and surf the cyberspace wasteland.

everything re-started alright, i will move those files off to recycle bin, and see if everthing is good tomorrow when i boot up again. neither of my kids would know if they downloaded BDE, it's amazing the garbage they get into.

getting late here in america, got to get some sleep.

i will repost thursday if all is well.

The folder can either stay in my documents for a day or so while you check the PC is running properly, or go to the recycle bin providing no one empties it until you check the PC is running properly

everything booted up OK this mornring.
my oldest boy is a college student, last night i remembered him saying a bit back how he downloaded a program for school, and it did not work. he was taking accounting, so that is where all this came from.
must have not downloaded it properly, or the fact that this is a vintge machine, circa 1988, it just didn't have the power to run it.

been doing some house cleaning on this machine, XP really piles up the files in a hurry.
Superantispyware home edition said i have 279 memory items, 4000 registry items, and 26,731 file items.

once again, thank you for your help. everyone at geeks to go has always been extremely helpful and friendly.

When you have checked everything is as it should be, click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools, disc clean up, click more options, clean up restore points

System restore is set to use up to 12% of the drive, so pruning it now and then can help

will do. when things are good, will reset a new restore point for today.

just ran CCleaner, took out a bunch of reg keys associated with BDE.
ATF Cleaner also works well.
