hi guys, I am new to this forum and have a specific problem with my pc. I am by no means an expert on computers, hence my post! I have been having problems with my pc for a few weeks now with it running very slow. Searching google I came across some programme called Regcure which I downloaded and let it run every day to hopefully clean my registry. To be honest the programme does not seem to have made the pc any faster! On returning from holiday last week having left my pc on the whole time, I noticed all the icons on my desktop had symbols instead of text underneath them. If I try and click on any icon or hold my mouse pointer on any icon I just get a load of little squares, dashes, dots, you name it but no eligable text. If I try and open any programme it is the same, just a load of gobeldy gook! However if I hook up with the internet, anything on aol I can read although on the top line where File, edit etc. normally is, again is just symbols! can anyone help please? I have norton antivirus and macafee firewall running! Thanks Neal

This problem is not Malware related as it has been checked out by the guys in that section!

Have you tried using System Restore? Select a date before the problem. If that doesn't work, do you have your XP disk available?

Original post before going to Malware section:

Is this the original post? Different title, same problem it seems.

Should have continued on in original post after being cleared of malware.

johanna, I couldn't use system restore as I cannot determine what is what on any menu as it is all in symbols. I shall have to search to see if I got my original xp disc with my pc. Do Dell normally give them with a new machine?
