I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate on my HP laptop and everything runs great. My only problem occurs when I put the laptop in the HP xb3000 expansion base. Audio does no longer play through the base as it did perfectly in XP Pro SP2

HP sent me a new expansion base saying that it had failed, but audio doesn't work with the new one either.

If I remove the laptop from the base, audio plays fine.

Any ideas? :whistling:

Hey there!
Did you ever find an answer to your inquiry?
I am having the same proble with a DV8328ca with Vista Ultimate (clean install) and an XB3000 I received today.
The speakers don't work when it's connected and when I connect the XB3000 VIsta tries to find drivers for the "unknown device" but ultimately fails.

did you ever get it to work?

Nothinga as of yet - I guess no one has experienced this with Vista so far.

Any ideas?

Yes actually. HP told me to restore the laptop to it's original factory settings (XP home).
Then connect the Expansion base and try it. It works. Then I had to do an UPGRADE to VISTA (** not a clean install **).
This install VISTA but keeps all the working drivers I have installed. IT WORKED!!
Not only that, it actually fixed alot of other hardware driver issues I was having. Where VISTA couldn't find a driver for devices before, it now recognizes them.

It only took about 6 hours to do all this....
Oh well....

Hi there guys!

Did you get your problems sorted with the xb3000? I have just paid £1200 for a new HP DV9000 laptop with the hope that I can hook it up to the xb3000 Expansion Base along with a second monitor. It's sort of working, only it's being very odd! The power button and VGA port works fine (for the other monitor), however the sound contorls don't light up and the USB ports don't work. I haven't tried any of the other ports. Also, when the AC adapter is plugged into the base the laptop doesn't charge... As you can imagine. this is really frustrating! The laptop came bundled with Vista Premium, so there's no option of me doing the upgrade from XP as you guys have. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

No solution so far - I wish we knew which drivers needed to be restored - I'm too far into Vista to go back and install Xp - It would take days to reinstall all my software. :whistling:

Thing is, these bases do work with Vista perfectly well - I checked one out in PC World this afternoon and it was hooked up and working fine with Vista (although it wasn't the same model as mine). I will attempt to call / email HP and see what solutions they can offer then post my findings here.

The ironic thing is, if you search the HP website for 'xb3000' there's nothing found! Idiots. Nice laptop though! :whistling:

:whistling: Eureka!! The previous posts got me to thinking. I went to the HP support website, put my notebook model in (Pavillion dv8380us) found the Conexant audio driver for XP and installed it onto my Vista Ultimate installation and lo and behold, it worked. Audio came back on the xb3000, the controls worked again - the world is good. Here is the link to the download I used, you should search by your model number and download the corresponding driver.

Wow, thanks Labrat, it works great now!

Anyone else having this problem should just go to HP and download the latest sound drivers - it looks like this was the problem all along!
