hookd up a dvdrom, connected it as slave, the drive cant seem 2 read dvds, dunno if i have 2 install drivers 4 it, it dint come with any. put in an audio cd, but sound was jittery. also i got error mssgs like" g: is not valid win32 application", g: is the dvdrom drive

Yes you do have to have drivers to play a DVD. that may be your problem
