After some form of malware corrupted my system, sending me into a logon-logoff loop, I was instructed to try and repair my XP installation. I tried following the instructions for repair, but after I accept the liscensing agreement, I get a screen that displays my partitioned drives, rather than the repair screen. It says C: Partition 1 [Unknown]- 38146 MB (38146 MB free). And then below that: Unpartitioned space- 8MB. I pressed Enter over Partition1, and then I got a screen that says I need to format the partition but that doing so will delete any files on the partition. How can I proceed without deleting my files?

I have access to another PC, but the infected computer is a laptop. I'm not really sure how to go about switching drives.

I was linked to those instructions previously, but as I tried to convey in my first post here, after I accept the liscensing agreement, I get a screen that displays my partitioned drives, rather than the repair screen. It says C: Partition 1 [Unknown]- 38146 MB (38146 MB free). And then below that: Unpartitioned space- 8MB. I pressed Enter over Partition1, and then I got a screen that says I need to format the partition but that doing so will delete any files on the partition. Is there a way to retrieve my data and get my computer running again?
