Hi

Just reformatted my laptop and everything reinstalled fine. Now XP is downloading the updates to bring me up to date, but there is one that keeps coming up all the time. I choose custom install, and after a few seconds it says installed! But its not, and appears a few minutes later. This is going on for few days. I also selected the express install option but no good. The file is:

MSXML 4.0SP2 Security Update (KB927978) 5.4mb

This is really strange....

If whiskeyman's advice doesn't work please go back to custom install and remove the troubling update from the installation. You will be advised that if you remove it you will not be able to reload, meaning you will miss one out of more then 70 updates. This was the only way I succeeded by-passing the problem which bothered me a lot.

Yes i think I'll just bypass it. It is so flippin' annoying. And the pages referred to are so user unfriendly! Do Microsoft think we're all experts? Its their problem and I cant believe they couldnt give a step by step explanation in plain English! :whistling:

Is it an important update?

Anyway thanks to all who replied.
