Trojan.Peacomm Infection(?)/Boot Freeze

Hi. My name is Harry, and I am a new computer user. If you explain things to me, please explain them thoroughly. I have never edited my registry, or booted into safe mode, so will need simple step by step instructions if I have a problem. (a friend is typing the current message for me, and has helped me with my system so far, but must leave the country and won't be able to help me after this.)

I have a Dell Dimension which is running Windows XP on an Intel Celeron 2.40 GHZ with 256MB of RAM. System Restore is currently disabled on this computer. It is running the Japanese version of Windows XP.

It came with Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus program installed. Two weeks ago I got an alert from the program that it had an outbreak of Trojan.Peacomm - However, my Symantec subscription had expired and though I tried to run the program, it kept taking me to the Symantec subscription screen. I uninstalled Symantec and installed Avast Anti-Virus, Ad-Aware, and Zone Alarm to protect my system.

I ran a boot time scan with Avast and it did not detect a virus. Also, I was not able to find any signs of the Trojan in the registry as listed by the following site: http://www.precisese...ea-jan07100.htm

However, the computer has been freezing on boot up the last few days. I was wondering if the Geeks to Go team could maybe see something in the the Hijack This log that might indicate that the Trojan is present or that there is a further problem with the computer.
