[Computer painfully slow]

I've gone through all the steps to rid my computer of adware, malware, viruses and spyware, and my computer still won't stop sticking. By that, I mean whatever application I'm using freezes about ever three seconds and then resumes. It makes it impossible to do anything fluently. My computer is Windows 98.

Any chance you can help?
