I recently bought a HP 940i dvd drive I removed my old drive a philips Drom 6016 44 and installed it. the drive would not show up instead I was shown only a floppy drive A that said the disc was not formatted and when clicked to format said no disc was inserted. I then tried to reinstall my old one which now encouters the same problem. now I have no cd/dvd rom drive that works. I hope you can help.

Go to control panel > system > hardware > device manager. Click on the + sign near dvd/cdrom drives. Right click on every item that you find there and uninstall it. Reboot the computer and windows will reload the drivers.

Actually I just got it working. I already tried what you said and it didn't work. I went to the registry and had to delete one of the files then restart the computer and it worked just fine. thanks for the reply though.
