Windows xp pro keeps freezing

i have recently installed a 360gb sata drive in to my computer and installed windows xp pro on it and formated the 40gb ide harddrive
i have had to format all the drives and start again 2X because the pc works fine for about 3 days then after u turbn it on as it gets to the log in screen it strts freezing and hanging up (the animation freezes for like 5 sec then works for a bit and freezes again)
after i eventually get the mouse over my username and get logged on it still happens
i have run alsorts of virus and spyware programmes like avg adaware spybot and have got sysgate perosnal fire wall. they all turn up nothing (apart from a few traking coockies which i delet but it still freezes
it worked fine when i had just my ide drive in but since ive installed the sata 1 it has had this problem
does any1 no wot to do??
help will be appreiatedalot!! =)
p.s soory if this is in the wrong place
i have also cleaned the fan because i read a form about there pc freezing and stuff cos it was overheating
i did it but it hasnt helped but could this still be the problem??
