My laptop has been VERY slow and has a lot of junk on it since many people have used it besides me and saved too many things on it. It also turns off randomly when it becomes overwhelmed (which doesnt take a lot). It heats up a lot and then turns off when it gets too hot. I would just like to restore it to its factory settings or reformat it or whatever to get it back to the way it was. I dont want to restore it to its last previous state but would rather just clean off the whole system. The problem is...I dont have the recovery CD's or the XP home CD. The restore program that I have on the laptop asks for the recovery CD's so I cant get that to work. Is there any way I can restore my laptop? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

The best solution is to format your computer, but you don't have the cd -_-..

What brand is your computer. It might have a hidden partition to reinstall.

I just tried using my roommate's recovery/XP CD and it seems to have loaded...and it goes into this blue screen that says Windows Setup...can I use this to get my own system restore program on my laptop to work (which asks for the recovery CD to be installed). Can I reinstall windows xp with my roommate's cd and just put in my product key? What are the steps to do that? Thank you very much for all your help!

The answer to your question is maby. Depending on what type of recovery cd your roommate has and what brand his computer is.
