when i try and run IE on my Win XP home sp2 machine (1.41 ghz, 256mb ram) the process starts in task manager but no window opens. the process is not in the applications window of task manager, just the processes one. i can't alt+tab and get to a window either. the machine takes forever to boot up, which i assume has a bit to do with the memory, which i plan on at least doubling. when i hit the ie shortcut a second time, a second iexplore.exe process shows up in task manager, but still no window. the cpu is pretty much staying at 99% system idle process and both iexplore.exe instances are staying at 00%.

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
