I assembled my computer maybe 3 years ago or so and hardly knew what i was doing. It worked wonderfully for over a year and then dvd playback got too jerky to enjoy. It has slowly progressed and now when I play ANY type of media (cd, music file, vid file, streaming vid/music, ANYTHING) it has these brief "skips" that sound like a buzzer that you would hear when you say the wrong answer. These skips happen at completely random intervals ranging about 2 seconds apart to perhaps an entire minute.

General specs:
P4 2.8ghz
1.5gb RAM
Geforce 4 Assylum 4600ti 128mb vid card
Creative SB Live! sound card
Asus P4B533 MB (i think this is correct)

Does it sound like something is overheating? I would love some ideas of what to look for before i pop it open. Since it started having trouble I have done 3 or 4 clean winxp pro installs and it happens again right away. Any ideas are welcomed. Thanks for your time!

If you would like any other info please dont hesitate to ask.
