Hey guys I have a quick question. I am away at school and I am running on a Dell Dimension 2400, I've had this computer for quite sometime now. I have a new iMac and I am gonna back up all of my files on my PC to my mac, now what I want to do is actually restore my PC back to factory settings. But being at school I dont have any of the cd's that came with the computer. Can you guys help me out or have any suggestions, thanks!!

P.S. - My system restore dates back to last month, thats it.

Hi CONNECTICUT...

Not all Dells came with the Symantec Recovery feature, but it's worth a shot. Start the machine and when you see the screen with the loading progress bar on it and www.dell.com at the top, IMMEDIATELY press the Ctrl and F11 keys at the same time. Press them only once. Timing is everything so if you fail, try it again.

If the machine has the recovery partition aboard and it's in good shape, this will start the recovery that will take the machine back to the way it was shipped from Dell. If it doesn't start, you will have to use the Recovery CD Set.

I tried a couple of times and had no sucess..I think I read somewhere that feature was only with 2004 and after models.
I got my PC in 2003 so it might be too old. I'm at school and I dont have any of my Recovery CD Set, can I download this somewhere?

If you do not get a blue bar up at the top that says www.dell.com you can not do it. and yes it is only models sold after ~October 2004.

What you may be able to do is get a disk from Dell, or maybe have someone ship it from home.
