SoundMax audio problem

I use SoundMAX Digital Integrated Audio on Windows XP.

I seem to be having a problem where i set up the sound on the SoundMax control panel to 'Surround Sound 5.1' but
everytime i restart windows it defaults back to 'Stereo Speakers'. The only way around this is to 'apply' surround sound and restart.

Grateful for any advice.
