Nothing really wrong anymore....pretty sure we took care of it way back in the beginning other than an errant file association

You could remove these two, if you want as they are both dormant, but your log looks ok.

Since the original problems, has it been acting funny?

Ahh, but these are not the original problems!

I have problems shutting down sometimes have to power off. --this is a tricky one to track down

Here's the best guide I have ever seen for this:
http://www.aumha.org.../a/shutdown.php

Also freezes quite a bit
Often memory or drive related. Try updating the drivers first. Might want to open her up and clean out the dust bunnies, too.

While you're doing general maintenance, consider diskscan and defrag, too

My husband and kids are for ever cursing (not literally) while on it because something is always going wrong.
Uhm, cannot help you...get new husband and kids ?

runs slow. Sometimes the clock loses a lot of time. ETC...

Clock losing time is often related to bat cmos battery, though it should consistantly loose time.

I suspect this computer is getting old

Thanks so much for all your help. You are a blessing.

You are right those were not original problems but problems none the less. As for defrag i have trouble with this completing keeps restarting. As for the husband and kids I just might do that :tazz:

I do still have the problem with the IPHLPAPI.DLL FILE CANNOT START on startup.

Thanks for all the time you have spent.

for iphlpapi.dll file, download the install the appropriate directoru
http://www.ascentive..._iphlpapi.phtml

Do complete defrag, choose CTL-ALT-DEL, and select each item in the list and hit END TASK (sometimes you will need to do this twice)

Close everything but SYSTRAY and EXPLORER

Defrag should now complete

why couldn't you complete that? What happened?

For the iexplore issue, see if you have c:\windows\windows update files.
If so, inside will be ie6setup.exe -- run it to reinstall IE
