vdnt32 blue screen[RESOLVED]

I have a problem almost the same as the posting by robertch on 19 march.

An infection caused the red screen with the desktop icons removed and 3 new ones added. The computer would not even boot then in safe mode, which required bringing the system up with a CD in the recovery panel, which allows now only safe boot of the computer. Thanking you in advance for any assistance.

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.

Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Use Windows add remove ptogram file's uninstall the following item's:

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.

Hello KC,

First, thank you very much for your reply.

I have follow your instructions below.

But in the time from my post until your reply, I ran a number of differant virus scans a number of times and a number of trojans and spyware files were found and some removed. (maybe).

I have been traveling some since my post, so last night I was able to go thru your instructions and the logs you requested are following.

I now have the red disktop with the SmartSecuity ad and the desktop icons are mostly gone.

Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/saExit Explorer.Reboot as normal.

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes. Let the system reboot.

Hi rar

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

* Click on the link to download the zipped
* Extract the file to 'C:\', then double-click on the file to open and automatically run it.
* Once the program has closed the DOS prompt window, you have successfully removed the programs!

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.

Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Hello KC

Ok, I skipped the huntbar.com down load step and did the remaining steps,

Ran Hijack and killed the items on the list I found. CWshedder found no CWS files.

Did not find a folder under programs [B]Toolbar.

Current status of the system is:
The red Smartsecurity desktop went away after the procedures of your posting before the last posting.

Now there are two icons for any files saved on the desktop.
The right mouse button does not work on the desktop.

Hello KC,

Followed the procedures in your last post.

The desktop icons that were orginally on the desktop before the problems started are back ( great :tazz: ).

The desktop background pic is not, though. This is not a problem.

The double icons are gone, and the right mouse button works.

Have not checked everything yet, of course.

Defrag your hard drive. Turn system restore back on and create a new restore point.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox user posted image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. 8)
