Well, Runescape is made with Java, though you could make a game similar to it in many programming languages. Java is good if you want to make an online game that you don't have to download (like Runescape). If you are okay with people downloading your game, or if you want to make an offline game, then C, C++, VB.NET, or other languages could be used. Use the one that you are most comfortable with.

u guys planning on programming it on ur own, or do you have other people interested in helping, was just wondering as this would be a very big project for one person!

What your trying to attempt is practically impossible. There a hundreds of employees that work for that company. One person isn't going to get much done. Not to mention that almost all games are many years of hard work from many developers.

You used to be able to get the Java source somehow, but I don't know, and it's probably illegal.
