Hi

I am running XP home.

I have two problems when the user log in screen arrives

1- When you click the user, mostly it hangs and wont open the desktop
2- Sometimes it will allow login but the desktop is empty - no icon appears

Any ideas ?

Its driving me mad as I continously have to do a manual reboot as the computer seems to have stalled and wont do anything.

Any help appreciated

Hi!

It sounds to me that some malware could be installed on your computer. Let me refer you to the Malware Removal forums. If you get a clean bill, please come back here and we will continue troubleshooting your problem.

Hi Happyrck..

What would booting in safe mode do..ie whats the difference between safe and normal mode.

I have run Hijack, Adaware, Spybot and antivirus and all came up clean.

I will try the safe mode boot and then post to malware forum

safe mode only loads the minimum required to boot..if it runs without hanging in safe mode ..its probably a driver causing the hang..

by this do you mean Hijackthis...spybot search and destroy...and what AV do you have

do you ever get to the desktop with all the icons and can you use the computer then
