burning a dvd to my harddrive

ok i have windows vista home premium and i am trying to use windows media player 11 to burn a dvd to my harddrive.
I do not know much about burning dvds so can somone explain to me what i need to do or what i need to get for me to succeed in burning a dvd onto my hardrive.

I do have a dvd-rw drive and the programs that came with a gateway mt3705, windows vista home premuim.

Media Player 11 probably won't do it.
Something like Nero will do it, but there are many other third party programs that can do it as well.

there is a program called "DVD Shrink" that will copy ALL dvd's for you. i am not sure if it is compatible with Vista, but It's one of my favorites.
