Could you give us a few examples?
I would guess your either doing it to a sub domain, which will not work most of the time. Or the site has set it so you can not have the www. I think of www as the name of a sub domain really.

Because musichasm is the subdomain.
If you think if www as a subdomain, it makes sense that it would not work.
