I was thinking that maybe it would perhaps be a good idea to establish more "Expert" titles in addition to Malware Experts, for instance a "Networking Expert" who may have more experience with networking, a "Hardware Expert" who may have more experience in PC hardware configuration, troubleshooting, etc.

This could help the vast number of users that are looking for specified help for issues in addition to/or besides Malware removal. Also would help the site traffic as well, bringing in more and more users and helpers to create a more diverse technical forum.

Just my $.02 =]

my $.02....i don't think this would actually help...some (read MOST) of us have multiple specialities...and can't really be locked into one section...sure we might have one field we're better at etc..but i don't think it would help to specify a specialty with the staff

This could help the vast number of users that are looking for specified help for issues in addition to/or besides Malware removal.

this suggests that users posting here should be seaking out specific individuals on the site to assist them...which is not how we work...a user posts a question...and whoever has the time or the knowledge to help with the issue tries to help...shouldn't matter if the person is a networking specialist or a hardware specialist as long as the advice given is accurate...these labels might also cause someone not to trust certain info given...such as a hardware tech giving advice in networking might get ignored by someone waiting for someone with the networking badge to come along....

any of that make sense?

Alright, I can understand where your coming from as far as someone who may be labeled something giving advice in a different section. But as a rebuttal, personally I have more experience in something like networking then i do in hardware configuration. So that's where I was kind of going with the whole topic I guess you could say. But hey, it was just a suggestion =]

I , like most helpers, reply to threads that they are familiar with and knowledgeable in and leave the things they aren't sure about to those that do know..you can track a topic for example if you want to learn more in a area your not up to speed on and follow along to learn while you watch the people that do know..
BTW thats my nickles worth... :whistling:

I agree with you here - If it is something that I am knowledgeable in, and I can provide information about, then I would respond and give my expertise and assistance to the poster asking for help. Titles are great, but as stated, we have many great people here, and it is impossible and impractical to title everyone with one specialty  We are all unique and diverse :help:

Okay this might be slightly off-topic, but I still think it's relevant:

<------ What do the hats mean? I think I've got three now, are they some kind of title? Like trust what someone with 4 hats says over someone with 2 hats?

I've searched for a while, but couldn't find any information on the hats! Long live the hats! :whistling:

the "little hats" denote your post count...so they pretty much mean nothing...it's just part of the forum

i think directing to a forum is the way to advise if #1, no response from anyone #2,let say posting a problem about excel in the o s forums... perhaps if we catch these questions quick enough and we cant provide the answer and direct them to a forum that can. that would save alot of no response time an make the issue get faster response time wait.... dont we already do that? :whistling: never mind

I found it here, never mind!

It's going to be a long time before I get 4 hats, can we make it so 500 = 4 hats? Please?

The monkey is correct. Post count means nothing to us here. We don't celebrate the number of posts someone has, nor do we look at post count when it comes time to promote people. Quality of posts, willingness to help, friendly attitude, following the rules...those are the things we look at. :whistling:
