My AVG Free Edition keeps detecting a virus called "Trojan horse Downloader.Generic4.JGP". It heals it, then when I scan again right afterwards it's there once more. I cannot seem to get rid of it. It's not causing any noticeable problems with my computer, I just figured I'd inquire about it. Here's my log:

I can't seem to get the online scanner to work. When Windows prompts me to install the ActiveX thing (looks like this: http://i91.photobuck...om/activex.jpg) I click to install it, and the webpage immediately is redirected back to here: http://i91.photobuck...om/activex2.jpg and nothing is installed or scanned.

• Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Ok, I get to the page where I click My Computer, when I click on it, nothing happens. At the top of the screen I noticed an ActiveX prompt across the top of the browser called 'Controles'. I click to run it, and an IE popup comes up saying "To display the webpage again, IE needs to resend the information you've previously submitted". I click retry, and the page refreshes right back to the page where I click My Computer...the only problem being that the ActiveX prompt is again at the top of the screen asking permission to run 'Controles'. I tried this a few times and it just keeps cycling in a loop that's not going anywhere.

Is there a program I can just download to run a scan instead of running in IE so I don't run into these stupid ActiveX security problems?

• Open AVG-Antispyware.
• On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
• Under "Reports"
  • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

• Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
  IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
• Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
• Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
• AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
• Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
• Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
• Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following folder (if present): (To get into Windows Explorer, right click the START button and select "explore.")

C:\Program Files\?dobe (Make sure the file mmc.exe is inside before deleting it.)

Then re-scan with AVG Free and see if it still finds anything

Hmm that path doesn't even exist, there is no folder called "?dobe"...only "Adobe". And I looked in there, and mmc.exe is nowhere to be found...strange that AVG is pointing to something that doesn't exist.

However, I ran a search using Windows Explorer for mmc.exe and it came up with 2 results:

Could it be this isn't even a harmful file and my AVG keeps seeing it as one? There's still no signs of anything wrong with my PC.

mmc.exe is a legit system file, as long as it's in the right place:

mmc.exe is the Microsoft Management Console application and is used to display various management plug-ins accessed from the Control Panel, such as the Device Manager.

system32 is where the file belongs and the other is a backup of the file in case anything happens to it. Purity scan simply mimics system files and put's then in legit looking folders, but in this case it was already gone for some reason.
