It's not uncommon for SR to be unable to complete the process successfully. Most likely some files which SR saves in it's restore folder are corrupted. My advice is to delete all the existing SR points so Windows can start afresh.

... i have been able to perform a system restore until recently so i tried to use files from a bit further back but it will not allow me to perform it using these either, is there no way i could do it without havin to start afresh?? Could you possibly help with another issue, i have a memory stick duo which for some reason will not open up when i insert it. It did automatically open up until recently but has stopped for some reason, i have a built in card reader on my computer and my card does not have a switch to lock it. Any ideas how to fix this problem?
Thanks again for your help appreciated
