Today I went to check to see if I needed any windows update and I can't get past checking for latest update, I've searched around windows update FAQ and the troubleshooting but nothing has worked. I'm hoping someone could help me out.

I need more description, are you running anything else in the background, what happens so you know it doesnt work. More details the better.

Sorry about that! I did manage to update windows it took about 25 minutes.

What got me to that, was that every site that I went on to pretty well stalled in loading up so I decided to run trend micro's housecall and it found a few cookies but that was about it. after the scan my computer is still loading up sites very slowly or it freezes.

try deleting all temp files any off line content and cookies then head over to malware let them have a look at your computer just for your own sanity...
