hey all, 1st time so i do not know if this qustion has been resovled yet, anywho here it goes..
specs are
MB-ABIT VT7 PT880 VT8237/atx rt
CPU-P4/3.0EGHz 800m 478p/1MB HT RT
DDRAM-2x256mb|pdp 32x64 pc3200 rtl
HD-SATA HD 120 gig seagate 7200rpm
{basic cd burner, case with side and front intake}
anywho, i put everything in the right way (at least i hope) my 1st time building a comp and already having issues, it freezes very, very frequently, i put the cd in to partition the HD and that freezes, i tried just using a win cd, that freezes, when i tried win 98, it would install half-way then freeze, ill restart and it'll continue and finally finish with 98, i try to upgrade to xp pro. and it just freezes waaaaay to much to finish. Anywho, yea i know that the cpu is known for overheating, i put new thermal gel on and at idle it reaches 42c. As far as i know i put everything in right, help me out please!, thxs very much for reading or if u have any other Qustions about the specs reply also. it also freezes once in a while when i install drivers and such.. thxs

Hi,

Test your ram with this

Test each stick individually, if one stick shows errors try and load the os with the other one, if both have errors then you need to try a known good stick and rma the bad ones

One other thing leave memtest run for at least 3 passes

.. oook how do u use the ram tester? i read the txt file and it only has linux instalation, thxs for the reply maybe you can help me use this "cool tool"

Hmm.. thats funny, did you make the bootable floppy?

ok nm i found out,,,, use a floppy dur,, lol

anywho, this is realy weird cuase i could of sworn that everything i put togetehr was compatible, then when i looked at the mobo book it said (i think) that it only uses northwood cpus, and mines a prescott, sooo i then looked at the wesite and there it said it was campatible, so i dunno its still testing now,

I ain't into intel much more amd but I would think Abit would make either cpu core compatible if the ram shows no errors I will look into that.

It will take awhile for the 3 passes to complete so let me know.

I know you would never do something like this but hey I did it once

Make sure you don't put hard drive and CD drives on the same cable.
If it is make the hard drive master.

I put a cd burner in once and it was on CS. Made the computer super duper slow.

Anywho, this probly isn't it. Just a thought.

naa the hd is a sata, hmmm hopefully i dint do anything wroung for that part.. umm ok its saying pass
