Screen turns off

Everytime my computer turns up the screen shuts itself off in the middle of WinXP sp2 loading screen.
It doesn't seem to recognize the computer even though it is connected.

Do you mean that during the splash screen the monitor goes off and doesn't come back on or does it just go off for a minute? I would start by reseating your video card and make sure the slot and connector is dust free.
