xp won't start

Hello, Windows Xp will not start up on my computer. A black screen comes up and says :
load needed dlls for kernel please contact your sysem administrator. Thanks in advance

Windows could not start because of an error in the software.
please report this problem as:
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem

The Hal.dll and Ntoskrnl.exe files are mismatched.

To fix this you will want to recover hal.dll and ntoskrnl

try following these directions
Microsoft Support KB 164448
