windows media player problems

i've been having some problems with windows media player, anytime i try to play a video the screen goes blank or it puts lines across the screen it has gotten so bad that i can't even do any video editing because of this problem, and just today i decided to uninstall media player 11 and revert to media player 9 and it's still giving me problems, i'm sure that the suggestion is going to be get rid of windows media player, but i need it to run windows movie maker, so if someone could help that would be great. thanks

try updating your video drivers and see if that helps.

Also make sure you have the appropriate codecs installed for what your doing. I have also seen the need (wmp, tools, options) to adjust Hardware acceleration.
