Ok I got burned with the wonderful issue that I see other people talking about on here. My desktop was highjacked with a spyware ad, no right clicking, couldn't even Ctrl-Alt-Del, homepage was set to About:Blank, etc.

I followed the steps in the pinned thread and I'm still having the right click issue. I can right click on the Start Menu and things like that but I cannot right click on files in windows explorer. Also my desktop still appears disabled as I cannot adjust images, only colour.

So I'm at the posting of the HJT log file step. Thanks in advance for any :tazz:

I followed the steps outlined...and still have issues.

They are as follows:

-Cannot right click on files in windows explorer
-Cannot right click on desktop/cannot change desktop settings
-A file named frjvzdxap.exe sits in my C:/Windows directory and keeps getting put back there randomly after being deleted. It pops up ad windows while browsing the internet under the title Aurora

Hello again Sskeli

You’ve got the dreaded Nail.exe infection. The easiest method is for you to download Ewido, run it and afterwards send another HJT log and I’ll clean up what is left.

To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop:

CCleaner
Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, Update it and Scan Everything. When it finds the first infection it will sound an alarm and stop. At that point check the box for it to perform this action for all infections (bottom left). At the end of the scan, you can choose to Save Report, please do so and send it with your next post.

This could take quite a while to complete, so get yourself a cup of tea and relax.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, Analyze, Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and also an Uninstall Log:

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix will require you to be in Safe Mode, which may not allow you to access the Internet, or my instructions!

A fair bit gone but a couple of things still need to be done. Can you tell me if Network Operations Centre, Scranton, PA is known to you? Let’s see what we can do on this attempt.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot into safe mode. Here's how:

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove this entry from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel (if present):(click Start>Settings>Control Panel)

DMVLite

Please notify me of any other programmes that you don’t recognise in that list in your next response

Close Windows Explorer and Reboot normally.

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.

*Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*In the field labelled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file path listed below (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe

Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts. If you receive a message and your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

This bit may be unnecessary, but please check the Add/Remove Program list and see if DMVLite is still there. If it is, please go to this website DMVLite Uninstall Tool and download the special uninstaller..

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.

How very odd. The one I thought was going to be problematical turned out to be easy, and the one I thought would just leave turns out to be persistent.

Anyway, I should have had you try to get rid of the file in safe mode, apologies for the error; let's try again. We are almost there - how's it running?

Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ntddetect] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe
O15 - Trusted IP range: 66.197.161.149

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please reboot your computer into safe mode. To do this:

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please open Killbox by Option^Explicit.

*Double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*In the field labelled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe

Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button. Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above. After that LAST file path has been entered, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts. If you receive a message and your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Post a fresh HJT log and I'll take another look.

Any chance of some feed-back?

This really is weird. The persistent startup has gone but we get a new Browser Helper Object (BHO) with the file missing. Well we need to delete it, so here we go again.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark against the following:

O2 - BHO: BolgerObj Class - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot normally and post back a fresh log with comments on the overall running of the PC.

Still getting a [bleep] popup window while browsing the net every so often. The inability to right click files or alter my desktop background hasn't changed. Other than that I'm not having any issues.

The problem is staring me in the face and I have been missing it. Let's try two different methods to finally rid this nuisance.

Firstly please run Ewido Security Suite. Update it first and ensure you have it scan everything. I am hoping this will get it but it didn't the first time you ran it, which surprises me.

When that has finished and you have rebooted, run HJT and do a fresh scan.

Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark against the following (if it exists still):

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please set your system to show all files.

Reboot into Safe Mode please.

Please open Killbox by Option^Explicit.

I rand ewido again like you said...used HJT to "fix" the svcproc.exe line. Rebooted into safe mode and used Killbox like you exlpained. Rebooted again and it still shows up in the HJT scan. I repeated the process a second time to make sure....still there.

Actually (fingers crossed), it appears to have worked. Phew! I was about to get into registry hacking.

Look again at the 023 entry - the last bit that says file missing.

Let's just tidy up a bit.

To get rid of that entry then:

Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark against the following:

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Run Ccleaner to get rid of unwanted bits and pieces.

Reboot, post a fresh HJT log for inspection, and tell me what is happening please.
