Yes, the Start - then - Search -- I guess the new Desktop Search Tool -- Windows Update installed -- that I uninstalled; because my computer was soo slow -- removed something that the origanal program needed.

1. Is there a program that can uninstall all the extras stuff that add & remove programs left behind?

2. The new Java went in under IE not Opera will that make a difference?

3. Now do you have a tutorial about which Start-up programs I can disable now that I've enabled them to be able to scan the whole computer??

No problem :whistling:

System File Checker, to make sure all of your protected files are not corrupt. The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.
Then rerun the scan. If this still asks you to put in your windows XP CD, and you do not have the CD (If you bought it preinstalled) post back for more tips, otherwise enter Windows CD.

Once the scan is complete:

Check your Windows Updates! After using the File Protection Service, you might need to reapply some updates.

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed.

Also, please rehide the protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Check" Hide protected operating system files.

Hey Don REALLY THANKS!
I have good days & worst days. Just like everyone, except I don't know where my brain goes to on those days. :whistling: It just makes things a little harder :) & interesting for those around me. I think it's harder on them because I can see it in their eyes, :help: that I am not making since like I used to before my stroke. I didn't realise how much everyone in the family were huffing, :help: untill the dog even started it -- I just still can't get over that. :)

Well back to computers, how does mine look now??? I did the sfc /scannow & I updated windows it wanted to give me IE7, now that I'm using Opera do I need to upgrade to IE7?? I got back my Desktop Search.

But, my Error messeges:
Alerter
Alerter Service on Local computer shows an error 1058: Cannot be started

Application Manager '' error 126: The specified module could not be found.

HidServ
Human Interface Device " error 126: The specified module could not be found.

WudfSvc
Windows Driver Foundation: " error31: A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I have not tried my printer yet. It's another headache --> no a migraine. It's has been an expensive Lemon. :)

I did use my dad's windows xp disk I have a bundled computer[pre-installed], I'm not sure if it had sp2[I have] or not? It did go in with continued prompting. My desktop looked different[smaller] after restart.

I still do not have auto read CD or DVD. When I put a CD in I have to go into Win Explorer or my computer to the E: drive to find the setup file etc...

Hi Don,
Sorry about not getting back to you sooner, had a bad couple of days.

My XP was preinstalled - Win XP/ Home Edition /Service Pack 2/ Version 2002

My Dad's disk was- Win XP Upgrade / Home Edition / Version 2002

I can't find out from it, if it has the Service Pack 2 like mine.

I still have problems with Error Box: Windows Installer service could not be accessed!

My DVD player & other peripherals do not auto start -- I have to go into Win Explorer to access them.

And my pictures are all showing up with the web icon--I can still see them but, it's on the web page -- weird, Huh? :whistling:

My Printer is not reinstalling right -- Error Box: HP install Shield Engine Unavailable. When I force it my date said Jan 00-00-00 - beats me??? so uninstalled again! :help:

Once again Thank You :help: for all your help!!!
