I need help debugging a w2k-pro machine. I replaced the failed disk drive, loaded w2k, and the machine seemed fine for a few hours. Then I uploaded more of Microsoft's recommended patches and the machine now crashes or freezes.

For your reference, I uploaded a few full dumps to:
http://www.dazuckerman.com/2kdump/

For the first time in my life, I tried to use WinDbg to figure out what's wrong... but I get inconsistent results.

Do you want to download some of my crash dumps and try looking at it ?
I set the symbol file path to:
SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbolS

This machine is:
* IBM Thinkpad T21 (circa 2001)
* 512 meg ram
* SMC2536W-AG wireless PCMCIA carD
* new Toshiba drive MK8032GAX 80GB ATA/6 Notebook Drive 5400rpm 8MB Cache 9.5mm SuperSlim.
http://www.storage.t...X_Datasheet.pdf
* McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Workstation Version 8.00.1009

I love the keyboard and the screen. I recently got a new battery for this machine before the drive failed.
I must use MS outlook/Excel/Word to do my job so linux is not the answer.

Thanks so much if you can help me.

Regards,
Dan

Have you run a memory test?
Could you look in the Event Viewer and list the last 4 error codes?

Thank you - I'll buy a usb key tonight and run the memory test.

I put the log file from the Event Viewer here: http://www.dazuckerm...emLog071007.evt
in this same directory are txt and csv logs from the System and the Application logs, e.g.
http://www.dazuckerm...emLog071007.csv

I put the windowsupdate log file here:
http://www.dazuckerm...ndowsUpdate.log

Below are error codes and other interesting events from Event Viewer. I copied these from the log files.

Thanks again,
Dan

The first error appears to be a problem with your hard drive. Windows 2000 Stop Messages. The second message may be a corrupted device driver.
To clear the DHCP error messages try resetting your LAN. Unplug your modem\router and turn off all of your computers and network devices. Turn the modem\router on, wait a minute then turn everything else back on.
